The third live-action theatrical film in the Planet of the Apes franchise, War, was released in cinemas across the world on June 11, 2001. His decision sets off a civil war between apes and humans. Battle is the first of four films to feature Will Rodman, who has by this point been adopted and renamed Chimpo. Rodman bears a distinct cultural and political affiliation with Caesar, which becomes clear when he renounces the pacifist philosophy expressed in Dawn:
