Khatta Meetha is a 1996 Bollywood comedy film, produced by Roy and directed by K. S. Ravikumar. It stars Akshay Kumar and Johny Lever, and was a commercial success. The film was the last to be released before the main six-film ensemble series, Enthiran. The film is based on the characters Jadwa, a blind man who lives on the outskirts of a Rajasthan town, and Moti, a ferocious dog.
Khatta Meetha is the first bilingual film from Dream Factory, and most critically acclaimed production of K. S. Ravikumar, director of the multi-starrer films Lipstick and Telugu films, Nuvvu Nenu and Premam. Ravikumar had several plans involving Krishnarajutram, but he was replaced by his son, Sathyan in the film after being arrested for allegedly showing Madrasan characters, and was later asked to leave the production by his son after considering the script even watered down.
The film was highly advanced in terms of its technology, and many action sequences were also completed. KRRV, a leading production house of Tamil cinema, produced Chithiram Pesuthadi starring Kamal Haasan. Prasad, the then CEO of KRRV initially bought rights to this film and wished to make the film into a series of three films to follow the success of Teen Patti. But Prasad, a very popular star of Tamil and Telugu films, died just before the start of the production, and the deal fell through.
Through this film Ravikumar achieved international credits. The film won the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Telugu at the 13th National Film Awards. The producers of the film released a special collector's edition of the movie 700 prints with the directors commentary in April 2011 on a DVD with the first 250 prints.[8] d2c66b5586
