Each color strip has its “eye-catching” side forward. This is a common feature used in the Fiery series of paper and their chenille pencils. As the pencil is stroked across the paper, the end of the stroke becomes visible by virtue of being more transparent. This is called “stripe contrast”.
The Fiery series papers incorporate this idea most effectively. In the image below, we’ve utilized our adjustment layer to add another layer of contrast that allows us to accentuate the unique visual property of each color strip. (The image has been touched up a bit to make it look a bit more presentable.)
What if there were more ways to find the creative uses for such a small “bug” or in this case “color band?” One could make a paper stencil, such as seen below, to enhance the purple area, perhaps incorporating swirly detail. Or perhaps one could use the particular color of the paper to create an additional element of interest. Simply cutting off a little of the edge would add a unique take.
In the print below, you can feel free to build out a design from the free sheet on the left. Don’t be afraid to take advantage of the paper’s unique properties. Feel free to add anything from simple shapes to full abstracts. Remember that whatever you draw or color in will remain a part of the finished product.
With the image of the bird completed, we’re left with the question of what to do with it. So keeping with the ambient theme, we decided to paint over the background with a bolder color. This void naturally lends itself to a subtle texture. d2c66b5586
